There is a point at which ecstatic visions and prophecies of oblivion merge. At that point the discrete and the infinite become indistinguishable. The coiled serpent consumes itself. This is the central point about which these two bands revolve. This LP reissue of the classic split CD released in 1999 represents a pivotal moment in the history of Australian death metal. For their part, Stargazer wield an intense power and technical ability in their songwriting resulting in the composition of grandiose structures, intricate and delicate in their complexity, yet impervious to dissection. Elaborate evocations of the process of creation and destruction in the universe and the Indo-Aryan left-hand path, Stargazer’ s songs are magnificent and enduring. Invocation present the same vision from a different vantage point. Manifesting the darkest elements of ancient and sublime mysteries, Invocation direct the listener into the depths of the esoteric. Calculated and hostile energy permeates these songs, the only tracks ever released by this sinister horde. The stylistic approach by both bands is complimentary. Indeed, few split releases maintain such an appropriate dichotomy. Both bands revel in a state of involution, and do so without succumbing to sterility. Aggressive, but calculated, each band constructs majestic monuments from the decay of the surrounding chaos. These recordings have been heralded for years and now are presented for the first time on vinyl. Originally re-mastered without the band’s permission prior to the CD release, Stargazer’s “Harbringer” is now presented as the band originally intended it to be heard. Additionally, Invocation’s “H.A.S.T.U.R.” was specifically re-mastered for this LP re-issue. Both bands pursue an elite path within the death metal genre…one which has seldom, if ever, resulted in a display of such exquisite strength. It is with the highest honor that Bird Of Ill Omen presents these tremendous recordings.
